On this Owl Encounter you will introduce you to a wide variety of Owls that life at the falconry centre in Midlothian.

At the start of this experience you’ll learn about their habitat, how they hunt and their preferred prey whilst handling and flying them. Learn how the plumage of an Owl is very important in order for it to hunt and why many of its bones are hollow.

From the largest of Eagle Owls to the smallest of Barn Owls, these birds never fail to amaze the young and old alike with their friendly, placid manner. Meet the Grey owl or stunning Snowy owl, as immortalised by J K Rowlings Harry Potter. 

Get up close and personal to these amazing birds of prey, feel what it’s like to be the prey of a European Eagle Owl as it swoops silently over your head. Awe at the down draught that is created by its feathers as it swoops and grasps its prey in its large talons.

Throughout the experience the master falconers will ensure your enjoyment, talking you through what is happening, telling you about each birds unique personality and answering any questions you have.

The falconry centre is situated within the historic Dalhousie Castle estate in Midlothian. It offers fantastic accommodation for the birds and lots of open space in mature woodland to allow them to fly, giving visitors the ultimate experience.

The setup is designed to cater for small groups so as to give you a more personal experience with the birds.
